A festival of music, song and storytelling over the first weekend in June
in and around the village of Portsoy
“One of the most exciting bands to come out of Ireland in many a year.
Their new album is a cracker”
Mike Harding Folk Show
“There`s a musical honesty about them that links past and present together… … They are what they are and do what they do and say what they say and it’s very direct and I love that. They’re not pretenders.”
Dick Gaughan
Hailing from Aberdeenshire, the Paddy Buchanan Band specialises in the reworking of traditional folk songs. Expect vocal harmonies and stomping tribal grooves.-

Welcome to Portsoy’s 15th HAAL of songs, tunes and stories.
Well, well! Well. As an old friend would say. Where has this last year gone. I’m delighted to be able to welcome you all to Folk at the Salmon Bothy’s 15th HAAL.
We have the cream of Traditional and Contemporary music and song, from, Scotland, England and Ireland lined up to entertain you. Of course, many of you will be adding to the variety of entertainment by taking part in sessions, sing arounds and workshops.
This year, we are following up on the success at the 11th HAAL, of the showing of artist Kate Wilson’s Wyvin Wyes. This year the venue will be the Harbourside Grain Store. Also exhibiting art work and performing traditional music, will be Chris Adam. A final year student at Dundee University. Our Sunday tribute concert is celebrating the life, works and collecting of the late Hamish Henderson. The event in celebration of Hamish will include films by celebrated, historian and filmmaker, Timothy Neat. Some of Timothy’s films will also be shown over the weekend.
Of course none of this comes without a substantial cost. Once again we are incredibly grateful to Allan Kennaway of Kenway Tyre Services, who for 15 years has been or main sponsor. Another major contributor is Bob Drummond, of Hydrasun Aberdeen, who has supported us for seven years now. Many local businesses, as well as the Towns Thrift Shop and 75 Club, Hamlyns of Scotland and The Station Hotel have helped us bring fine acts to our town and helped keep ticket affordable. There is a full list of our supporters in this programme. Thank you all.
I’d also must mention the hard work undertaken over the weekend by a huge band of helpers. Collecting tickets, selling raffle tickets, stewarding, minding the cash, in case I overspend, MCing and running sessions, not to mention making affa fine porridge Doug. Thank you all.
I’d especially like to thank Susan and Euan Cameron, former proprietors of the Station Hotel. They decided earlier this year that it was time to retire and relax. We all wish them all the very best for a long, happy, healthy retirement.
Sadly, at the back end of last year, we lost a great friend to our Festival, Dia Henderson, when she lost her long brave battle with cancer. We will miss her humour and songs for sure. We miss you Dia.
Finally. Enjoy meeting old pals, making new pals and dining and playing your hearts out.
Cheers,
Bob
