Sheena Blackhall, born in Aberdeen in 1947, is a celebrated Scottish poet, storyteller, and writer. After studying at Gray’s School of Art, she worked as a special needs teacher while writing children’s stories for BBC Radio Scotland. She later earned degrees in psychology and literature, becoming Creative Writing Fellow in Scots at Aberdeen University.
Sheena has played a key role in promoting Scotland’s culture, working with institutions like Smithsonian and Aberdeen University’s Word Festival. Named Makar for Aberdeen and the North East in 2009, she has published over 190 pamphlets and was appointed North East Makar by the Doric Board in 2019. In 2023, she was recognized by the Order of the Scottish Samurai.
